Olukayode (Kay) Ojo is a Nigerian-born Canadian artist celebrated for his bold, emotionally charged abstract expressionism that bridges African heritage with contemporary Western techniques. His paintings explore rhythm, texture, and identity through vibrant colour and spontaneous movement, creating immersive visual stories that resonate across cultures.
A First-Class Honours graduate of the University of Benin, Kay’s artistry reflects both discipline and freedom, shaped by years of experimentation and cultural exchange. His works have appeared in major exhibitions, including the Art À La Carte show at the Legislative Building in Toronto in 2022, and are part of collections at The Museum London and The Art Emporium, Port Stanley.
Kay’s portrait subjects include renowned public figures such as former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, which reflects his artistic range and ability to capture character through paint.
Beyond the studio, he is the founder of Kay’s Art Live (K.A.L.), a creative community initiative that brings art to life through collaborative public painting sessions with Londoners. He is also a regular participant in the London Artists’ Studio Tour, where visitors experience his process up close and connect with the stories behind each canvas.
Driven by the belief that art should move people before it decorates walls, Kay Ojo continues to push the boundaries of contemporary African Canadian art, merging culture, emotion, and craftsmanship into timeless visual experiences.
